What to expectTreatment begins with an assessment learning about your circumstances, past and strengths and challenges. Next we define the problem and look at communication patterns, beliefs and fears as well supports and whats working. Each session will have a strategy for couples to take away. This could be an exercise to do together or a task to do or notice over the week between sessions.
Sometimes we need help seeing things or responding differently or learning new skills. When we know better, we do better. Often there is a component of healing from past hurts. We explore your feelings and find ways to connect again. Relationship guru Sue Johnson call this "hold me tight" conversations. The first round of treatment is usually four or five sessions. This might be enough. Other times couples attend for another four or five sessions working on another aspect of the relationship. |
